Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Our cold, icy streets hardly make it pleasant for outdoor exercise like walking, but that didn't stop the Walk This Way kick-off.

Mayor Dennis Walaker helped lead the indoor walkers through the skyway system downtown. Others went outside.

Walk this Way is a series of 14 walking events throughout the metro, promoting fitness and exercise. Public Health says this is just one way to address the growing issue of diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight management.

Kim Lipetzky – Fargo Cass Public Health: “Obesity rates 62 percent of us are that way so if you can be active and eat right it all helps with that and walking is so great for that. We encourage people to go out and try. >

"Walk this Way" runs through May 14th. It is free and there are prize drawings at each event.
