Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- A funding bill that includes the Red River flood diversion project, is set to reach the Senate floor by May. That from North Dakota Senator John Hoeven.

Hoeven was at the flood preparation meeting today.

Last week, the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee passed the 2013 Water Resources Development Act, which includes federal authorization for the proposed 1.8 billion dollar flood channel around the F-M area.

Hoeven says he believes the project will pass the Senate.

Then, it goes to the House.

John Hoeven, North Dakota Senator says, "That is very positive news in terms of getting the diversion authorized, so we need to continue to work however, to make sure that with upstream interests and so forth we've worked with them and we get everyone on board."

90 percent of Cass County would be protected with the diversion.
