Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Fargo police are using high-tech gear to help solve graffiti crimes in the city.

The police department has purchased two graffiti sensors, and installed them in targeted locations.

Eight people have been caught so far on graffiti offenses.

They wouldn't show us exactly what these sensors look like.. But say they're similar to equipment that can be purchased online.

The sensors detect fumes from spray point.. Then send out an alert to authorities nearby.

Lt. Joel Vettel, with the Fargo Police Department, says, "This senseless type of activity, all it does is damage people's property. Not only is it destructive, but really infuriating as far as the people it happens to, the victims."

The sensors work together with cameras installed downtown to help cut down crime.
