(WDAY TV) -- UND hockey fans never got their chance to see what could've been a Final Five semifinal between North Dakota and Minnesota.

But, now there will be another chance. UND made it's 11th straight national tournament, the new active record, after Michigan failed to make it's 23rd straight.

North Dakota is heading to the western regional in Grand Rapids, Michigan

as a 2-seed, where they'll meet Niagara in the opening round, Friday night at 4:30 on ESPN U.

UND is 4-0 all-time against the Purple Eagles. The winner of that game will play the winner of the region's top seed, Minnesota and Yale.

So, yes, it could be a Gophers-UND region final for the 2nd straight year.

Quinnipiac is the overall number one seed.

Other notable matchups, U-Mass Lowell gets a top-seed and will play Final Five champ Wisconsin, Midwest top-seed Notre Dame gets St. Cloud State.
