Fargo team taking stance for Sex Education Program

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A team including NDSU Faculty, a Fargo City Commissioner and Planned Parenthood has come out swinging today.

In response to an attempt by Representative Bette Grande to strip NDSU Researchers of their new voluntary Sex Education Program, supporters today tried to correct, what they say is misinformation.

They say there is no state funding involved. The Federal Grant of 1.2 million dollars is designed to help at-risk youth make good, healthy life decisions and choices.

There have been repeated attempts by some lawmakers to shut down the federally funded project, set to begin this month.

Molly Secor-Turner, Ph. D., RN/NDSU Researcher: “Funding from a federal agency to put together and implement a program that can prevent teen pregnancy I am baffled why any political stance would want to get in the way of that.”

NDSU President Dean Brescianni, in a statement today, says the college is committed to academic freedom and he supports providing youth with effective educational programs.
