Climax, MN, to Begin Sandbagging Friday

People in Climax, MN, will start sandbagging Friday to protect the city from the rising Sandhill River.

People in Climax, MN, will start sandbagging Friday to protect the city from the rising Sandhill River.

Civil defense administrator Jim Litch says volunteers are needed to help make the targeted 6,000 bags. Litch says city utilities and some residents are in jeopardy at a level of around 34 ft. The National Weather Service predicts the river could rise to near 33 ft. by early next week.

Sandbagging will start at 8 a.m. Friday. Volunteers can go to the Tronnes Shop downtown. Sandbagging will go on until 5 p.m. or until the goal is met.

As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday, the Sandhill stood at 19.18 ft. Flood stage is 20 ft.
