Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - People living in the Clara Barton and Hawthorne neighborhoods are worried for the future of their schools.

Parents and residents met with Fargo School District officials to talk about possible outcomes of the Fargo School Board's long-range facilities plan. Some people worry their older schools may be shut down, because of growing operational costs and enrollment numbers.

Ellen Shafer – Hawthorne PTA President: “We like our small schools, we like our neighborhoods schools, we really embrace this. It's really active, we walk to school, we're a very active community, so I think the biggest concerns are we want to make sure we have a voice and a group at the table so they hear us.

John Strand – District Facilities Committee Chairman: “It's pretty early to tell but I don't think we need to worry too much. The town, the city, the district, the people, all really celebrate their neighborhood schools.”

The first public meeting is scheduled for Thursday.
