Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- The National Weather Service is trying to determine what effect this pattern of above normal snowfall and below normal temperatures will have on our flood outlook.

Greg Gust says the entire Red river basin is quite snow covered and the active pattern is expected to continue for a few weeks.

That, coupled with much below normal temperatures, means large scale snowmelt and runoff conditions will be delayed until early to mid-April... which puts us at higher risk for a rapid thaw.

The next outlook, assessing those risks, will be issued Thursday.
