DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — Dickinson State University students have cataloged 1,000 creature specimens in the school's natural history collection.

Professor Michael Shaughnessy tells the Dickinson Press that the school's collection of bird, mammal and insect specimens in priceless.

Shaughnessy says that when he came to DSU in 2007, he found a collection of specimens that had not been maintained after the retirement of the previous curator. He says only about 300 of the specimens were worth saving.

Students have added 700 specimens since then.
