FARGO – Passers-by dragged the driver of a burning car to safety this morning on Interstate 29 in north Fargo, a fire official said.
The car was southbound on I-29 when it caught fire, Battalion Chief Dane Carley said.
Dispatchers received the initial 911 call at 7:53 a.m. reporting the car’s location about a half-mile north of 19th Avenue North.
A second call a minute later related that several people were trying to get the driver out of the burning car, and the same caller reported a minute later that they had smashed a window and dragged the driver out, Carley said.
When firefighters arrived, the engine and passenger compartments of the car were engulfed, Carley said.
F-M Ambulance transported the driver, who complained of smoke inhalation, to Essentia Health, Carley said.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, he said.
