Principal at Lake Park Audubon Elementary receives top honors

(WDAY TV) -- The principal of Lake Park Audubon Elementary has received a top state honor.

Sam Skaaland is one of 12 in Minnesota selected for the Leadership Achievement Award from the Minnesota Elementary Principals Association.

Skaaland was honored at a surprise ceremony today.

Students past and present spoke of what a great leader he is and even performed a special song for him. In 2008, the school was recognized as a school of excellence by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Skaaland says, "It's a day I'll remember forever that's for sure, it doesn't happen everyday, but to have everybody here and doing the nice things they did for me, I wont ever forget it."

Skaaland has been an educator for 38 years. He's been principal of LPA elementary for 7.
