BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — New and remodeled areas at the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck will open in stages beginning this fall, unveiling the results of a $22 million expansion and renovation.

The museum will open its new front door over Labor Day weekend, along with other remodeled areas

The first of the museum's four new exhibit galleries also will open in the fall. Completion of the project is scheduled for Nov. 2, 2014 — the 125th anniversary of North Dakota's statehood.

The Heritage Center on the state Capitol grounds is home to the State Historical Society of North Dakota and is the state's official history museum. When the expansion project is complete there will be 39,000 feet of museum space — nearly double the original amount.
