Judge dismisses 2nd petition against Dalrymple

MANNING, N.D. (AP) — A judge has thrown out a second petition filed by Dunn County residents seeking a grand jury investigation of Gov. Jack Dalrymple for campaign contributions from the oil industry.

MANNING, N.D. (AP) — A judge has thrown out a second petition filed by Dunn County residents seeking a grand jury investigation of Gov. Jack Dalrymple for campaign contributions from the oil industry.

The Forum newspaper reports that Judge William Herauf ruled the petition lacked signatures from qualified voters.

Herauf threw out more than 100 signatures from people who listed post office boxes and other questionable addresses such as a crew camp. That left the group about 50 signatures short of the required 205.

The judge also ruled that Dunn County is not the appropriate venue for the allegations, which he said in November when dismissing a similar petition.

The petition alleges that oil industry contributions to Dalrymple's gubernatorial campaign could be considered bribery. Dalrymple's campaign called the allegations baseless and politically motivated.
