DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Community leaders in Devils Lake think North Dakota's 11th-largest city should have a convention center.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that the City Commission has authorized a $25,000 study. The cost will be split by the city's economic development organization and a local tourism committee.

The study is expected to take about six weeks. Mayor Dick Johnson says city leaders then will develop a proposal to present to the community's 7,100 residents.

Johnson says developers have expressed interest in building another motel or hotel in Devils Lake. He says a convention center-hotel complex could serve as a small-scale version of the Alerus Center-Canad Inn complex in Grand Forks.
