Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- In the middle of a housing and economic boom West Fargo is dealing with something its never seen, down sizing.

It has to do with new water meters being installed at every home and business. Now reading those meters, a job that used to take 2 weeks,

will get done in less than a day.

The city commission had to pass a reduction in force policy -- because the city on the grow never had to let a position go. The new water meter's are eliminating one job.

Carmen Schroeder, Human Resources Director, says, "we're growing so fast that it's almost like against the grain of what we're doing but the efficiencies do come into play here the radio reads are going to take the place of a person's job unfortunately."

The new water meters will be in place throughout West Fargo by the end of April.
