New website helps prepare residents for potential floods

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - With new flood outlook numbers out today it might be time to start thinking about a possible flood fight in the F-M area.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - With new flood outlook numbers out today it might be time to start thinking about a possible flood fight in the F-M area.

A new website has been created to make sure you are prepared every step of the way.

The new Red River Basin Decision Information Network is a one stop shop for everything flooding. It has everything from contacts, insurance information, to updated maps specific to your area.

John Wheeler, WDAY Meteorologist: “There is a whole lot of information on this website. All of it was available before, but now you just go to the website and you can find it because it's all right there.”

Our own Meteorologist John Wheeler helped develop the site. He says it's been in the works for a few years.

He and other flood professionals know just how much information is out there so they decided it would be easiest for people to find all in one place.

The site is easy to navigate. Icons on top of the home page allow you to choose from emergency help, to loans, maps, and contacts. You can view full flood forecasts for your area and outlooks by using a drop-down menu which will show you a seven day forecast to a three month outlook.

Wheeler: “One of the neat things is there's a glossary and it's got a lot of information because there is a lot of terms we throw around like cubic feet per second that we just assume people understand, and if there is a word you don't understand that's involved with flooding this glossary will help you make some sense out of it.”

The site will be available from here on out to keep you and your family safe before, during, and after a flood.

To check it out, we have a link on our website WDAY.com.
