Dilworth, MN (WDAY TV) - A Dilworth man is in jail after police seized a quarter of a million dollars worth of high-quality medical marijuana, their largest pot seizure ever.
Authorities say with the drug now legal in states like California and Colorado, we could see more trickle into our area.
Medical marijuana is now legal in several states, but more of that product is finding its way across borders, and being sold illegally in our communities.
Lt. Tory Jacobson, Moorhead Police Department: "It's a very large problem for the authorities out in those states. They've indicated to us to expect this problem to continue."
This week, Moorhead police seized 32 pounds of high grade medical marijuana, 9 grams of mushrooms, $25,000 in cash, and an AK47 at a Dilworth home.
They arrested this man, 33-year-old Lawrence Brink.
Jacobson: "This is a lengthy investigation, where, certainly, it continues, and as far as future arrests, they certainly could result."
Investigators found the marijuana came from California, where medical pot is legal. Growers are authorized through the state to grow the plants.
Jacobson: "The growers that are licensed to grow this medical marijuana. They grow more than they're supposed to and certainly are obviously trafficking it outside the area where they are legal to do so. So, that's how their problem becomes our problem."
Brink faces a list of charges that include Felony controlled substance possession, ineligible person possessing a firearm, and child endangerment.
