(WDAY TV) -- Team USA plays it's first game in the World Baseball Classic on Friday, and a pair of Twins and Minnesota natives will represent the red, white, and blue.

Catcher Joe Mauer and pitcher Glen Perkins will try to help team USA advance past the semifinals for the first time. And while some managers are getting nervous, Gardy is comfortable with Joe Torre being in charge of his players.

Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire says, "He was my manager way back when I broke in to the game. So, I know that he understands the game as well as anybody. And he knows what spring training is all about. So, yes, it makes me feel a lot better knowing that Joe Torre is running that thing. He understands about the players and where they're at and they're getting ready for the season."
