A three car accident backs up traffic for hours in Fargo

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Traffic was backed up for hours this afternoon after a three vehicle accident in south Fargo.

It happened at the intersection of 45th Street South and 17th Avenue around one o'clock. A vehicle heading north on 45th was attempting to turn left onto 17th when it collided with a vehicle heading east. That driver attempting the turn spun around and was hit head-on by another vehicle on 45th.

Three people were injured and taken to the hospital.

Lt. Joel Vettel with the Fargo Police says, "The first striking vehicle continued on and struck a second vehicle which ultimately was the worst of the two collisions resulted in a head-on collision which obviously where the injuries took place and also a significant amount of damage to both those two vehicles."

Investigators worked the accident scene for a few hours this afternoon, causing some major traffic backups and delays.
