Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) -- The North Dakota Senate has revised, and approved the idea to buyout Chancellor Ham Shirvani.
The State Senate passed an amendment today, to offer $850-thousand dollars
to the board of Higher Education to buy out Shirvani. This is a day after the same proposal was killed by one vote.
Senator Tony Grindberg's amendment only provides funds for the buyout, it does not force the board to fire Shirvani. Grindberg says Senators started to re-think their vote.
The Board of Higher Education backs Shirvani, but the North Dakota Student Association expressed a vote of "no confidence" this weekend.
Sen. Troy Grindberg of Fargo says, "Folks that changed their position on the vote, this reinforces the message that current direction and concerns are broad based. Whether it's the legislature or the students There are a number of folks who are expressing their concerns and the legislature spoke."
The buyout amendment passed by a vote of 28-19. Now the bill moves on to the house.
