Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- By 2014, studies estimate half of Internet use will be on smartphones.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation is catering to that trend, with a new app service for road conditions. The app features a travel information map, closure and emergency notifications, and camera views.
They say they have added more cameras, so people can see what the roads actually look like.
Russ Buchholz, NDDOT IT Director, says, "They'll see where the road conditions may be yellow or purple, and they say, 'I don't believe that.' So, they'll look at the camera, and they realize, 'ok, I guess it is.' So, a picture is worth a thousand words."
The DOT also launched a text message and e-mail list for road notifications.
