BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's House has defeated a measure to create a panel to investigate alleged acts of wrongdoing by politicians.

The Republican-led House voted 70-24 against forming an ethics commission.

House assistant Democratic leader Corey Mock of Grand Forks and Rep. Ed Gruchalla of Fargo sponsored the measure aimed at forming a nine-member ethics commission.

Backers of the proposal say North Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming are the only states that don't have an ethics commission or committee.

The Legislature also defeated an attempt to create an ethics commission in 2011.
