Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The Fargo man who is accused of shooting his wife and passing it off as a suicide, is asking for a public defender.

This morning, Ronald Rogers appeared in his first court hearing on a murder charge.

Today Rogers appeared before court via video, but did not state whether he believes is guilty or not.

Officials accuse the 46-year-old of killing his wife, Elizabeth Rogers, by shooting her in the head. Rogers was arrested Friday morning, after authorities claim he put the gun in her hand to make her death look like a suicide.

Ronald Rogers has been charged with murder and willful disturbance of a dead body.

Birch Burdick, Cass County State’s Attorney: "We allege that he moved the body after it died under suspicious circumstances, essentially we are alleging he staged the body."

Today we did ask the state's attorney how strong their case is against Rogers, he was not able to comment.

Rogers' next court appearance is March 21st.
