(WDAY TV) -- No denying the oil industry is fueling North Dakota's economy, but leaders say the economy would have grown even without the oil.

The statement comes from Tax Commissioner Cory Fong. He says the state has been on a strong and steady growth patter since 2003, long before the oil boom.

Fong sites an uptick in retail trade, wholesale trade, manufacturing and agriculture.
