Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - We're just hours away from a Snow Removal Declaration in Moorhead that could bring back another big day of towing.
The parking restrictions run from 8 in the morning to 8 at night both Thursday and Friday, hitting roads in Moorhead's "Blue Snow District."
That covers area around MSUM, Concordia, and Eventide.
Right now streets are still packed with snow and cars that will be in the way for public works tomorrow.
Chad Martin, Moorhead Public Works Director: "The best thing we can do is tomorrow look down the street and see nothing."
Come morning, cars parked in front of buildings in the Blue Snow District with even addresses will have to be gone. Friday it switches sides to odd addresses.
Martin: "The system works well if we can get the cars out of the way, we can plow the streets and get it back to the curb-line and get that rough stuff off of the streets.”
Early this month, more than 125 people learned the hard way coming outside to an empty spot, instead of their vehicles, and a $95 towing bill.
Martin: "Some people were pretty mad."
The city is supposed to give people a 24 hour heads up and after last time, campuses are sending out a strong warning.
"I received a text message today even, so if you're on their alert system, you can keep updated with that."
So both city employees and students hope this time people get the point. Move your car, or have it moved for you.
"Considering there's a precedent set, yeah, I think people will get the idea that the city means business."
"They'll tell you at 9 p.m. 'tomorrow morning is the time' and they're ruthless, the cars just go away."
The city has more information on its snow declaration website, where you can also sign up for notifications.
