Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's been the biggest talker for Bison fans for the past few days - Montana State's decision to buy out of the game in Fargo on September 7th.
Today we found out the Bobcats replaced NDSU with SMU, an FBS opponent who will pay Montana State $300,000. Now, $100,000 of that will have to go to the Bison for opting out of the game. The Bobcats AD says this was a necessary move.
Peter Fields – Montana State Athletic Director: “This is about making a decision – and it was a hard decision – but it was about Montana State and what's best for our program. At this point and time we wanted a home game and in order to make that happen we had to generate more revenue. It's revenue neutral, but it gets our student-athletes from Texas home. We have a number of student-athletes who are from Texas and it's been a good recruiting base for us. Denarius, for example, gets to go to Dallas that's where he's from.”
Montana State has nearly 10 players that hail from Texas.
