Grafton schools training for shooting event

GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) — Middle and high schools in Grafton will be participating in a mock shooting event Thursday to practice the school's emergency plan.

GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) — Middle and high schools in Grafton will be participating in a mock shooting event Thursday to practice the school's emergency plan.

High school Principal Darren Albrecht tells the Grand Forks Herald that the school decided to take advantage of the free day, which was set aside for faculty professional development.

Several victims with simulated injuries will be treated by city first responders and teachers. The plan includes a lockdown.

Grafton schools held a similar event five years earlier.

Consulting firm Wenck Co. will be coordinating the event. Manager Derek Hanson says the emphasis is the response of school officials and first responders. He says it's an "all-hazard approach" that would be useful in the situation of a gunman or a chemical spill.
