Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- It's the time of year that Moorhead hockey lives for, the playoffs open tomorrow when the Spuds host River Lakes.

It's been a trying year for Pete Cullen in his first season behind the Spud bench.

Moorhead finished the regular season with a .500 record, at 11-11-2. But, 10 of those 11 losses came to teams ranked in the state polls. In fact, Moorhead has played all but 3 of the top 11 teams in the latest class 2-A poll. Now, we'll see if it pays off in the postseason.

Pete Cullen, Spuds Head Coach, says, "You know, I'm going to be daring and say we've had the toughest schedule in the whole state. I think the experience that we've had with that and dealing with some tough losses and being in games and battling will really help us out in playoffs when it counts."

Nick Uglem, Spuds Sr. Forward, says, "The tough schedule has really affected us. It has made us realize that we're not all the best and God's gift in hockey. So, it's nice. We're coming in as the number one seed, but we can't let that change how we play. We have to come out and work hard like we did all season. We should be fine."

The Spuds are going for a third straight trip to the state tournament, and a fourth trip in the last 5 years.
