Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- A string of stabbings has hit the metro area with three in only ten days.

Police say stabbings are rare in our community so when they happen, they take them extremely seriously.

Moorhead saw one last Wednesday, after a fight between two Fargo men. Two happened in Fargo less than 2-weeks apart. One after a sexual three-some turned violent, and another early Sunday morning after a fight on Broadway.

Police say the stabbings are unrelated, but say alcohol is a common thread.

Lt. Joel Vettel with the Fargo Police says, "we're always trying to prevent those types of crimes from happening in our community so that's why we spend a lot of time being proactive in trying to address these types of symptoms and also some of the things that cause ultimately these types of events."

Vettel says a majority of weapon related assaults involve alcohol, so police are working on addressing issues like over-serving at bars.
