Blizzard conditions shut down roads, including Fargo’s 19th Avenue

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- It's been another brutal Monday for those of you trying to get around anywhere in the valley.

A Blizzard Warning shut down roads up and down the region, including some right here in the metro.

Unlike the big blizzard a week ago, the big problem was visibility, poor road conditions and blowing snow made driving deadly.

Rush hour traffic on 19th Avenue drove smack dab into a wall of white. Winds gusting over 40-miles an hour created zero visibility. Cars crashing into each other.

Thomas Salmen/Fargo Police Dept.: "Complete white-out conditions, in know one of the drivers said they stopped completely and they got hit a couple of times."

Travis Smedshammer was in the middle of it all. No injuries, but it left his car not driveable.

Travis: "nothing like a Fargo winter"

The whiteout conditions and the closure of 19th avenue re-routed traffic for those coming to Hector Airport. Some drove in from as far away as Fergus, zero visibility at times.

"Pretty close to white out, two white lines at a time."

And from the west, Valley City.

"A lot of cars in the ditch, probably a good day to stay home."

Another Monday morning a blizzard consumed. Five more Mondays and it is April. 19th Avenue remains closed tonight. Businesses like Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebees were able to be open this afternoon , because the closure on the 19th was located just past the air museum.
