Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- NDSU football fans who circled September 9th on their calendar to see the Biso host traditional Big Sky power Montana State, are scrambling for their erasers today.
Meanwhile, the Bison are scrambling to fill their schedule, 6 months before the season.
Montana State will pay NDSU 100-thousand dollars to buy out of their trip to the Fargodome. It's the 2nd straight season, that a big-time program has backed out of a trip to Fargo, Georgia Southern bought out of last year's game, before coming to Fargo for a playoff game. It took NDSU's athletic director by surprise.
Gene Taylor, NDSU Athletic Director, says, "I'm really angry and really disappointed, stunned. We uphold our end of the bargain. We gave them many opportunities to reschedule the game. They finally schedule it and then in late February they tell us that they need to move with another scheduled game. Georgia Southern did it and maybe Montana State would get the pleasure to come back to our place like Georgia Southern did and get welcomed by the hospitality of our fans because that's very frustrating when you're trying to do this with conferences. For them to pull out, I just don't get it."
Montana State is hoping to schedule and FBS opponent for that date.
Meanwhile, NDSU has 3 dates left open to replace the game, September 7th and 14th and November 2nd.
