Hawley, MN (WDAY TV) -- Several people from our area volunteered to adopt or foster about 30 of those neglected horses.
These horses are stepping off a semi-trailer after a long journey. Not just the hundreds of miles from Mandan, but also the neglectful conditions they endured in their former home.
Steve Rask: "It's horrendous, what has happened to these horses."
But now, hope is on the horizon.
Lifelong "horse people" from across the Red River Valley are giving these animals a second chance.
Kateri: "The biggest challenge will be getting them healthy again but starting off slow."
Some are adopting, while others are fostering⦠they will nurse them back to health, then find them permanent homes.
Tracy Tschakert, a horse trainer from Barnesville, organized the mass adoption.
Tracy: "I guess I was just so mad. I can't understand how anyone could sit by a let these horses starve to death."
Becky Parker: "Upon seeing the horses, organizers say none of them appear lame⦠just very thin, and in need of proper nutrition."
Kateri: "We have a great horse community, I'm sure they'll all find good homes."
Steve: "They deserve better."
Triple H Horse Rescue in Bismarck took in some of the other horses.
