Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- A worldwide movement popped up on the Veterans Memorial Bridge tonight.

Across the world, groups came together, just like this one, to rally for "one billion rising." It's to bring awareness to physical and sexual abuse against women.

The group shows stats that 1 in every 3 women will be raped or beaten in her lifetime worldwide. This group held the event in collaboration with "idle no more," a new movement started by natives in Canada.

Deb Dorman with One Billion Rising says, "bring awareness to the sexual abuse and violence that happens to native women. 1 out of 3 native women will be raped in her lifetime, they're two and a half times more likely to have abuse happen to them."

Groups around the world were encouraged to stage these risings in offices, colleges or at local landmarks.
