Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- An Asteroid, the size of half a football field, will fly by earth at a rather uncomfortable distance tomorrow.

The "2012 D-A 14" asteroid is traveling at more than 17-thousand miles per hour. If it struck earth it could eliminate an entire large city.

It'll come within 17-thousand 200 miles to earth, which is close when you think of just how huge space is. It makes its pass at around 1:44 tomorrow afternoon, but we won't be able to see it from where we live.

Juan Cabanel, MSUM Professor, says, "i'm guessing there are going to be quite a bit of youtube videos of people with their big telescopes tracking this and making a movie of all the motion of the asteroid across the sky."

Last asteroid of this size to hit earth was in 1908, in Siberia. It wiped out about 800 square miles of trees -- almost twice the size of the five boroughs of New York City.
