Emergency Responders have a jam packed night

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- It has been a 24 hour jam packed schedule for emergency responders.

Police and ambulance responded to accidents and cars in the ditch all day.

One person even took out a road closed sign on I-29.

A trip home ended soon after it began when this car plowed into a road closure gate on I-29.

Shea Denault: "It was pretty bad, pretty white-out."

About a half hour after the Highway Patrol closed the interstate, Shea Denault and his sister headed out for Abercrombie, unaware of the closure.

Shea: "All of a sudden we see this gate. We were doing about 45. She freaked out, she was driving, and she slammed on the brakes."

The next thing they knew, that gate was wrapped around the vehicle. Neither was seriously injured. The Department of Transportation replaced the gate with lighted barrels. The crash is added to a long list of cars in the ditch and stuck in the snow.

To make matters worse, when these accidents happen the ambulances that respond to them are also having a difficult time getting through the snow and traffic.

That's why, in 2009, FM Ambulance started supplying their own plows

Don Martin/FM Ambulance: "Supervisor vehicles were outfitted with plows. So, those plows do go in front of the ambulances to either help get them unstuck or also just plow in front of them."

But the public could help them out by staying off of the roads whenever possible.

Bryan Niewind/Highway Patrol: "We have a no travel advisory everywhere within this side of the states and we just suggest people stay home right now. If you don't have a reason to travel, stay home. Just hunker down until the storm clears."
