(WDAY TV) -- All though we'll get a heavy dose of snow, it's nothing like what people out east are seeing.

Take a look at these photos, some people are literally snowed in, snow as high as doorways and windows. Officials say that wet, heavy snow and high winds snapped power lines in 8 states.

The latest numbers show at least 664-thousand homes and businesses are without power from Maine to Pennsylvania. 38 inches of snow was reported in central Connecticut.

The weather has police officers on rescue missions today in Long Island.

Dozens of vehicles were stopped in their tracks and those motorists spent the night in their cars. Rescue crews are trying to get them from their cars and to warming centers.

This is also from Long Island, during the storm a 4-alarm fire. It happened just after 6 this morning. 8 people were injured, one of those critically.

It displaced around 70 people.
