BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota House has passed a bill that would ban doctors from performing an abortion if a fetal heartbeat is detected.
The House also passed a bill Friday that would prevent women from having abortions based on gender selection or a genetic defect like Down syndrome.
The measures are among several anti-abortion bills proposed by Republican lawmakers this session.
Critics say the bills are aimed at closing the state's sole abortion clinic in Fargo.
