Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Teenagers, more specifically, mom and dad can dish out hundreds of dollars for Prom. The dress, the hair, the limo, the shoes.

And so, a group of students at Moorhead High has decided to help each other out, by starting the first ever "Prom Dress Drive." They are getting good response.

One-by-one, the sequined and colorful gowns are rolling into Moorhead High. Prom dresses that will be given to students who cannot afford to shell out hundreds for a gown worn for a few hours, on one shimmering night.

Vianna Berhow, Moorhead High Junior: “I think prom is a great experience for girls to have and I think this program is a great way for girls who cannot afford dresses to go and have a good time.”

Students will be asked to pay a small fee, to cover the dry cleaning costs before they are given out, the few dollars will be a dramatic change from the price tag some pay for prom night fashion.

Lindsey Taft, Moorhead High Junior: “It is outrageous. I had a friend last year and it all adds up: the dress, the hair, the shoes, and accessories, and it drives parents wild.”

The Prom Dress Drive, the first ever here, is all student driven. These two girls hope to find a local dry cleaner who will work with them on dry cleaning the gowns before the May Prom affair.

Men's suits and ties are also being accepted at the high school.
