Hawley, MN (WDAY TV) - The Heart O'Lakes may be one of the best boys basketball conferences in Minnesota Class 2-A. Hawley is in the driver's seat, ranked 3rd in the state.
The Nuggets have been averaging just under 80 points per game, a number that ranks 4th overall in Minnesota. First year head coach Jed Carlson has his squad playing red-hot with a 16-1 record.
The big test comes Friday. Hawley hosts Perham, and the two share the conference lead. The Jackets are responsible for the Nuggets only loss.
Jed Carlson – 1 Year Hawley Head Coach: “Friday is a huge game for us. It's a measuring stick game. The record looks nice, but we have to avenge are only loss and until we beat Perham we'll be the bridesmaid of them.”
Be Ellefson – Hawley Sophomore Forward: “Our defense has to step up a little bit. We just have to pressure the ball, take control and set the tone immediately and make them play our game instead of playing their game.”
Devon Pekas – Hawley Senior Forward; “We have so much size on our team. And so much athletic ability and length that no matter who's on the floor we're pretty much going to have a mismatch. So, we just have to pass the ball around and find that.”
A reminder - WDAY will televise the 8AA semifinal and championship at Concordia in mid-March.
