BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A former officer with the Three Affiliated Tribes in North Dakota has pleaded not guilty to roughing up suspects during two separate arrests.

A grand jury in December indicted Lindrith Tsoodle on four counts, including two charges of civil rights violations. He allegedly assaulted one man in November 2010 and another man in December 2010.

Tsoodle is also charged with witness tampering and false statements. The indictment says he attempted to convince a witness not to report one of the incidents to other law enforcement officials and lied to a federal agent about the assault.

Trial is scheduled for March 12 in Bismarck.

Neil Fulton, spokesman for the federal public defender's office in the Dakotas, says defense attorneys are reviewing government evidence and conducting their own investigation into the case.
