Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- Students at MSUM are trying to help the campus go green..by kicking off their own recycling program.

About 20 students will each be assigned to a specific building where they will try to figure out how to decrease the amount of trash that gets thrown away each week. The group's goal is to increase recycling by at least 10 percent and create a growing awareness for campus wide sustainability.

Joe Herbst, MSUM Sustainability Coordinator, says, "with this much interest, this program could actually work. This is something I could take up and implement and kind of administer the program, even though it will be technically student run. It just seemed like a really cool idea and a great way to get students involved in making the campus greener."

Herbst says he's in the process of choosing 20 students to carry out the program.
