Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Few of the apps we profile here at WDAY have generated the buzz that tonight's has. It's called "Got Ya!"

If your phone is stolen or hacked, it helps you become your own crime solver because, there's an app for that.

It can happen in an instant. Your phone or tablet, left unattended is swiped. And it's not just about the phone. It's all of the contacts, pictures, apps, calendars and important, private information that's stored inside.

But one simple download today turns you into a detective and may help you get your phone back.

GotYa can literally show you who stole your phone.

Here's how it works. If you don't already have one, when you download the app you set up a screen lock. You also set it up with an email or Facebook account. When the thief tries to unlock your phone, it immediately takes a silent snapshot and emails the picture to you. This is what you see. Every unsuccessful password, a new picture of the thief trying to hack into my device. For the app to work you do have to have a front facing camera.

The app goes a step further, it also sends you a link with the GPS location of your phone so not only can you see who stole it but you also know where they are.

And it's not just handy if your phone is stolen, it can also give you a look to see if someone's snooping at your phone, their pic, ends up right in your email too.

With the Got Ya! app you can also send text messages to your lost or stolen phone and lock or unlock it, request a callback or location and play an alarm sound even if your phone is muted.

To get all these features you do need to buy the paid version. The free version doesn't offer all of them. Got Ya! is $1.99 on the Google play market.
