Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - While Minnesota lawmakers battle over the budget, a nonprofit think tank has come up with policy proposals they say everyone can get behind.
Minnesota 20/20 leaders stopped in Moorhead to introduce what they're calling "Five Ways Forward."
The first is an economic development plan to revive small towns, one storefront at a time.
They propose reworking the state tax code to provide property tax incentives for businesses who renovate long-vacant buildings.
Lee Egerstrom, Minnesota 20/20: "We think it would help municipal planners, economic development specialists for regions, counties and cities, and entrepreneurs who might be willing to invest in bringing back new life to grand, old buildings."
Other ideas include reducing medical errors, expanding solar energy and broadening statewide transit.
