Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Plenty of talk in the EDC girls basketball race has surrounded Shanley and West Fargo this season, but there's another team under the radar that's starting to make some noise.

Fargo North sits in third and this is a huge week for the Spartans, first up their rivals from South tomorrow night and then a showdown with Shanley on Saturday; their defense has been key, allowing just 50 points per game so far this year.

Kira Larson says, "We mix it up between man and zone just to keep teams on their toes and honestly I think that kind of sets us apart from the other teams because we're able to mix it up a lot."

Derek Ouren, North Head Coach, says, "I think defensively, we're one of the better teams in the state. I really do. It's just offensively, sometimes, we have to really grind to score. I think we need to use these games before we do play Shanley and play West Fargo again to see how we can improve our scoring and find out how we can compete with them, because they have so many weapons."

North sits 5th in the latest state rankings
