Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- With driving conditions so treacherous in parts today, crews have been trying to get ahead of the game.

The Fargo Street Department was out on the main roads today, spraying a "pre-emptive" strike against slippery roads. A light mist this morning, along with expected changes in the weather today, prompted the Fargo Street department to spray the salt water solution on the main arteries.

Lee Anderson with the Fargo Street Dept. says, "a little more melting today especially with the fog and it is a real light ice layer and if it does snow we will get a little extra bang for our buck."

The spray put on the streets also contains a sugar beet bi-product.
