Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) -- Family and friends of a man shot and killed in Detroit Lakes are burning a fire in his memory.
Travis Buckanaga died at the hospital after a double shooting. 38-year-old Ronald Quiceno faces charges of second-degree murder.
This is the mobile home where 23-year-old Travis Buckanaga was shot and killed. Barris Guy was by his side, he was also shot, but released from the hospital and back at the scene a day later.
Guy says it stemmed from a late night argument that escalated.
Barris (Friend/Also shot): "For someone to be taken so young like that, and something over so small of a confrontation. It's just ridiculous."
Just a house away, Travis's family has a fire burning in his honor. It will burn for four days.
Anthony (Cousin): "It's a spiritual fire to help him on his journey, keep his light, his path. Help him get up where he has to go."
They remember a funny and caring young man. Not nearly as imposing as his tall frame would suggest.
Deziree (Cousin): "he's that type of person when you walk into a room, he could just brighten up the whole room. Just a good person, just nice, like a big teddy bear."
Travis also left behind a one-year-old daughter... Tiara.
Deziree: "She looks just like him. Identical to him. Just the spitting image. He loved her to death."
Patrick (Father): "The guy that did this. In my heart, I have to forgive him. Jesus told me I have to forgive him. So, it is what it is."
It could be a longer road for forgiveness for the man who was there that night and saw his childhood friend shot and killed..
Guy: "Hatred. I feel much hate towards the guy."
The shooting is still under investigation.
