LINTON, N.D. (AP) — The south central North Dakota city of Linton is getting federal help to upgrade its water infrastructure.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development agency is giving the city a $1.1 million loan and an $891,000 grant for work on the water system that serves more than 650 customers.

Linton's water system was constructed in the late 1930s and the water mains are deteriorating. Rural Development State Director Jasper Schneider says that by replacing cast iron pipe with PVC pipe, the city will reduce water losses and eliminate potential health concerns.
