Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- A 4-car garage in North Fargo is destroyed after a car inside started on fire. When the car's owner tried to start the engine, there was an explosion under the hood.

The owner of this car, Michael Kennedy, says he came out to get it warmed up before running some errands. But when he turned the key, something went very wrong.

Kennedy: "There was something like a bomb, an explosion went off. I tried to start it again, gray smoke started coming out of it. I don't have much space in between to actually be comfortable, so I just got the hell out of there."

A malfunctioning engine sparked a blaze in the four-car garage, which is used by tenants in the apartment next door.

Asst. Chief Leroy Skarloken/Fargo Fire Dept.: "We found the four-stall garage here fully involved when we got here, heavy smoke showing. Firefighters entered the garage and put out of the fire."

By the time firefighters pushed the '95 Buick Park Avenue out of the garage, there wasn't much left but a blackened, charred frame.

One other vehicle was home at the time, but luckily, it was sitting outside the garage and was not damaged.

Kennedy: "My car is probably the best, dependable car in the whole complex."

Kennedy says he's not sure why his dependable Buick went up in flames, but kept his chin up with a little bit of humor.

Kennedy: "'95 Buick go-cart for sale!!! All it needs is paint!"

Both the garage and car are complete losses.
