Oxbow, ND (WDAY TV) -- The city of Oxbow is switching sides on the F-M diversion project, now supporting its Oxbow ring dike plan.
Oxbow leaders voted to withdraw from the Richland/Wilkin Joint Powers Agreement. A group against the diversion.
Mayor Jim Nyhof cast the deciding vote. He says most people in Oxbow believe a ring dike is best for the city. It would help save Oxbow, but force 40 homes to relocate, along with six holes on the golf course, and the clubhouse.
Mayor Jim Nyhof says, "their position is strongly in opposition to the project and you can't have it both ways. We can't oppose the project and be in favor of the project because we're agreeing to be a part of the project."
Nathan Berseth, with the MN Dak Upstream Coalition says Oxbow's decision won't greatly impact their group.
