Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) - North Dakota lawmakers are also considering a bill that would change your child's summer vacation. It wouldn't allow school to start before the fifth week in August.

Sports teams wouldn't begin practices until the Thursday of the third week in that month. Representatives from the tourism industry say August is a big month due to the nice weather.

Rep. Mike Schatz - (R) New England: "I like August; to me it's the nicest month in North Dakota. I don't think we should be in school, but this would move it back and give us another week of nice weather to enjoy the outside and tourism in North Dakota.”

Schatz says while the bill doesn't insist schools start after labor day--as many people have pushed for in the past--it is a step in that direction.
